Historical notes.
The name "Bellaria" first appeared in a document dated 1359, where it was described as a small fortified farm of the Malatesta family. Traces of the town's long history can be found in its Roman archaeological remains, old churches and the Saracen Tower, the symbol of the town and the ancient defence of fishermen and farmers against marauding pirates, but now host to several interesting museum collections. Places to be visited include the Old Quarter and the Harbour, where the maritime atmosphere and traditions of former times can still be discovered, and the "Red" House, once the holiday residence of poet Alfredo Panzini, and now used for interesting cultural events. Bellaria's tourist traditions date back to the end of the 19th century, when the beneficial effects of seawater and sea air were discovered, and sea-bathing became fashionable. The first guests were attracted by the particular beauty of the golden sandy beaches, framed by groves of trees and the safe and shallow waters of the sea.

Beach, Sport and Entertainment
Bellaria's clean and sandy beach is today the setting for increasingly organized beach centres with modern childcare facilities and a wide variety of opportunities for sport and open-air activities, from beach volleyball, beach tennis and beach soccer through to traditional boules, acquagym exercises in the water and Latin-American dancing. An oasis of bright colours, where multicoloured parasols, sunloungers, pedal boats and children's games relax and entertain all the family.
In addition, the POLO EST free public beach offers facilities and sport, leisure and entertainment activities, with qualified yoga teachers, aerobics and acquagym trainers, diving instructors, babysitters and children's leisure leaders, disk jockeys, entertainers and dancing instructors.
Not to be missed are Aquabel, the nearby waterpark with flume rides and pools, the many theme parks and countless opportunities for leisure and entertainment for both adults and children.

Town, Nature and Events
Bellaria boasts a splendid pedestrian-only centre, known as “L’isola dei Platani”, an elegant precinct with many fashionable shops and boutiques, cafes and restaurants. The attractive street furniture set in the shade of old plane trees is the ideal backdrop for strolls and shopping, amply demonstrating the attention that Bellaria dedicates to the environment. Every year the town hosts a wide variety of events, like the highly original "Bellaria Igea Marina Beach Golf Tournament" held in March, and the "Anteprima Bellaria Film Festival", with screenings and other events linked with the Italian independent film world, held in June. The "Pink Night", the long all-night festival lasting from dusk to dawn, is pink for love and romance, with special events, shops open all night and fireworks in a thousand shades of pink. Theatre, shows, street markets and special events for children ensure a lively atmosphere in this town the whole year round.
